The securing stake for the kite is one of those corkscrew dog stake you can
purchase from the local pet shop. This also doubles as the earth connector. As
you observe in the picture the lower wire is the earth from the ATU. Probably
not the best earth in the world but I think the counterpoise assists in this as
the bare wire are touching the ground in several places.
The bungie shock cord is to help reduce the sudden tugging placed on the stake.
The upper wire is the antenna itself. This is made of electric fence wire. This
is a man made string with stainless steel wires entwined, six in this case. Due
to the wire being stainless steel, soldering is a complete impossibility so I
have crimped all connections. Crimping has made repairs in the filed a lot
easier.
