Texas Mini-Bug Catcher. This spent about one year on the car, mounted using the three magnet mount. This was the older type construction (not the new triangular steel sheet) with two aluminium bars. The antenna mount was modified several times. First the antenna was move due to the rear sunroof came in to contact with it. Second time was the boot lid touched the mag mount. So moving the twin magnets in front of the antenna connection cured that (you can just see the head of the bolt in front of the 3/8” socket in the picture).

Tuning was done on only two bands (14MHz and 50MHz) as these seemed more suitable to mobile working.

The bug catcher work fine but not as well as expected. To over come the capacitive connection between the mag mount and the roof, an earth strap was connected constructed of some outer screen of two feet of RG-213. This worked great and I could work any station whilst mobile using 100 watts (Signal reports: Europe 59 to USA 56).

The 50 MHz was more for a local net so no DX was chased with that band.

So a very good antenna for the two bands it was tuned for.
